Irish Famine Migrant Stories

Irish Famine Migrant Stories in Ontario is a virtual exhibit that tells the stories of the desperate and often disease-stricken emigrants who fled across the Atlantic from Ireland’s Great Hunger in 1847. The exhibit also tells the stories of the local doctors, clergy and other compassionate individuals in Ontario who provided care and assistance to the newly arrived migrants.

The exhibition is hosted by Canada Ireland Foundation. It was developed in partnership with Dr. Jason King, Academic Coordinator of the National Famine Museum, Strokestown Park, Roscommon, Ireland.

This online exhibition was developed with the support of the Digital Museums Canada investment program.  Digital Museums Canada is managed by the Canadian Museum of History, with the financial support of the Government of Canada.
